QR Code Monkey Alternative
ON THIS PAGE
Is QR Code Monkey actually free?
Yes. The static designer includes logo upload, shapes, colors and high-resolution export. If you maintain the destination page address, it can do the job without a subscription.
The product changes when you select Statistics and Editability.
What happens when you flip Statistics and Editability?
Selecting Statistics and Editability takes you to QR Code Generator, a Bitly-owned product. That is a separate service with its own trial, pricing and cancellation rules, rather than an upgrade to the free static image.
What is on the other side of that hand-off, from the destination’s own pages:
- A 14-day trial. Their support docs: trial dynamic QR codes “are deactivated and point to a service page rather than the original destination.” A scan then opens the service page.
- The plan that reactivates them: $19.99 a month for 2 dynamic QR codes with a 10,000 scan cap, or $119.88 a year. The bigger tiers ($227.88 and $599.88 a year) are billed annually only.
- Their Trustpilot rating: 1.4 out of 5 across more than 9,200 reviews. Trustpilot’s own summary of recent reviews describes QR codes that were “unexpectedly deactivated after a short period, compelling them to pay for expensive subscriptions.”
What does the same thing cost without the subscription?
QR Code Generator’s cited Starter plan costs $119.88 annually for two dynamic QR codes.
A Graklink dynamic QR code costs $7.99 once, including edits and basic counts.
If you only need destination editing and basic counts, a purchased QR code has no renewal cost over five years. For a card you will keep reprinting, that lets you retain the same QR code through future website or booking-service changes.
Should you still use QR Code Monkey?
For a static QR code, yes. Their free designer is excellent and a static QR pattern has no timed expiry, as covered in do QR codes expire. Keep the destination page available.
Choose the free static designer when its fixed address is enough and you do not need routing or a managed scan count. For those capabilities, compare the separate service reached through the toggle with Graklink, which includes time-and-day and iOS or Android routing. An app-download poster can send each phone to the matching store page from the first scan, even when the destination never needs a later edit.
Common questions
Is QR Code Monkey really free?
The static designer is free. Its Statistics and Editability option leads to the separate QR Code Generator service, which has its own trial and paid plans.
What happens when you turn on Statistics and Editability in QR Code Monkey?
You are handed to QR Code Generator, a Bitly product, for a 14-day trial. After the trial, the plan is $19.99 a month for 2 dynamic QR codes with a 10,000 scan cap, or $119.88 a year. QR codes made during the trial are deactivated when it ends unless you pay, and scans of a deactivated QR code land on their service page.
Do QR Code Monkey QR codes expire?
Static QR codes made with QR Code Monkey never expire; no static QR code from any generator does. QR codes created through the editability hand-off follow the subscription's rules instead: when the plan lapses, they stop working.
What is a cheaper alternative for a dynamic QR code?
Graklink’s dynamic QR code is a one-time purchase, including unlimited scans, editing and basic counts, compared with the cited $119.88 annual Starter plan behind the editing option.
Should I still use QR Code Monkey for anything?
Yes. If you need a static QR code that will never change, their free designer is excellent, and we say that as a competitor with our own free static generator. The moment you need editing or scan counts, the free tool has ended and a subscription has begun. That is the moment to compare.
